The Donald Barker Collection

Donald Barker's son Peter has donated this collection of photographs taken by Donald about 1959 to 1961 when the Keirby Hotel had just been built and work was being carried out to create Centenary Way and, later, the Bus Station. Donald lived in Todmorden and was a Hoover Company technician. He was an amateur photographer and his photographs show images of the town centre which have long since gone.

Here are the locations of the images shown on a 1930s map of the area. Between the date of the map and the images being taken, the Odeon Cinema was built on the site of Rishton Mill, and the Keirby Hotel opened on the site of the Keirby Brewery. The numbers on the map relate to the Media Reference Number on each individual image.
