Princess Anne's Visit 1977
On Monday the 28th February 1977 Princess Anne visited Readwood Riding Stables, Read. The visit was arranged in conjunction with the North-West Region of the Riding for the Disabled Associaion, of which the Princess is Patron. Readwood was selected as the oldest group in the region where classes for disabled riders began in 1966. On arrival the princess was introduced to local dignitaries and other guests, watched demonstrations by disabled riders and presented rosettes. The Princess left to spend some time at Dyneley, Cliviger the home of Mr. and Mrs. Towneley before travelling to a banquet and cabaret at the "Talk of the North", Eccles, where she was presented with a cheque for five thousand pounds in aid of the Riding for the Disabled Association.
