Atlantics Seek Further Success

The Atlantics: from the left: Keith Fawcett, Melvyn Aston, Eric Holt, Andy Russell and at the front, Colin Edmundson. A Burnley beat group will set out next week in the hope of reaching another milestone and adding to their already impressive list of successes over the last two years. The group is the Atlantics and on Tuesday they visit Bradford to compete in a competition called “Search for Sound”. First prize is £500 cash and a recording contract and there to help the band along will be two coach loads of fans who will follow their idols to Bradford.
They have been travelling the length and breadth of the country for bookings and they reckon they clock up 1200 miles a week in their van. With an average of four bookings a week, they have had to turn down any continental tours. Not long ago, they tried to become a fully professional outfit, but reverted to their semi-professional status soon afterwards. Members of the Atlantics have invested £2600 in equipment and they sing and play Tamla Motown, blues and pop numbers. The group has a thriving fan club with some of the 300 members scattered all over the world.
