The Nelson Leader/Colne Times recorded the many activities of groups, organisations and societies carrying out valuable community work including: civic groups such as Rotary, Lions, Inner Wheel, Soroptimists and other ladies groups; church groups (including the Salvation Army) and their activities; youth and young people's groups such as cubs, scouts, guides, brownies and boys' and girls' brigades; senior citizens' groups and political groups.
